Today was my last day on East Lansing’s Downtown Development Authority.

It has been a privilege to serve on the Downtown Development Authority for the past eight years. Looking back, it feels like the culmination of a long chapter of civic service that began with the advisory board for (SCENE) MetroSpace in 2010, followed by the Arts Commission, and later serving as the Chair for the Downtown Management Board, Local Development Finance Authority, and Parking Task Force. Over the years, I’ve served alongside nine different mayors. Each brought a unique perspective, but the commitment to the city remained.

What I’ve enjoyed most is working alongside people who genuinely care about East Lansing and its future. Much of this work happens behind the scenes, but the decisions made matter to businesses, residents, students, and everyone who spends time downtown.

I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together, and I’m grateful to the staff, fellow board members, city leaders, and community members who dedicate so much time and energy to making East Lansing stronger.

It’s easy to complain. It’s much harder to show up, do the work, listen, compromise, and serve. I’m proud of everyone who chooses the second path. Thank you for letting me be one of them.
